12 BEST PET FOOD BOWLS – FEEDING TIME DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BORING!

12 BEST PET BOWLS – STYLISH AND FUNCTIONAL CHOICES Below are the best pet food bowls that are handcrafted. Everyone who has a pet has at least one or two bowls specifically for them. They can range from the simple plastic or stainless-steel ones found in most big-box and pet specialty stores such as Walmart and Petco. Or they can be specialized ones which ease your pet’s digestion. A third option is a pet bowl which enhances your home décor, instead of just being practical. Here are a few different types so that you can choose the best dog bowl or best cat bowl for your furry friends: STANDARD PET BOWLS PLASTIC BOWLS These pet bowls are simple, practical, and inexpensive. Plastic bowls, the general standard, are the least expensive and come in various colors. However, these bowls can crack or break easily, and are not as easily cleaned as stainless steel or ceramic.  Plastic bowls are also more difficult to clean, as food residue can remain in crevices.  Plastic is also not recommended for teething puppies or kittens, as they…

WHAT IS SPAYING AND NEUTERING? HELP LIMIT OVERPOPULATION AND EUTHANASIA AND 9 OTHER BENEFITS OF SPAYING AND NEUTERING YOUR DOG OR CAT.

What is spaying and neutering and why should I have it done to my pets?  Spaying and neutering provide many benefits, from ensuring better health to curbing unwanted behavior to preventing overpopulation and the resultant euthanizing of healthy animals. WHAT IS DONE DURING A SPAY PROCEDURE? The most common spay removes the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus.  Your pet will be put under general anesthesia (unconscious), and one incision made.  Everything is removed through this one opening, and the area is closed with two layers of stitches. ALTERNATE SPAY METHODS Sometimes, other options are presented.  One is a hysterectomy where the uterus and part of the fallopian tubes are removed but the ovaries remain; the other is removal of the ovaries, and the uterus remains. All of these procedures are done under general anesthesia. Whichever method is chosen, the pet will be unable to reproduce. RECOVERY FROM SPAYING Your pet will have to wear a cone (Elizabethan collar) for up to seven days to prevent them from licking or scratching and reopening the incision. Activity should be strictly limited for the…

DIY PET PROJECTS

It's only natural that we lavish love on our furry companions -sometimes in the form of DIY pet projects.  It’s great to watch your pet enjoy something you’ve made.  And you’ll never hear them say that it’s the wrong color, or it’s lame, or the other pets will make fun of them. We all love our pets, and, sometimes, part of that love is making a hand-crafted pet project just for them.  Some crafters sew blankets.  Other, more ambitious ones, make complete dog or cat beds.  Toys play an important role in preparing kittens and puppies for adulthood.  These little ones learn social interaction and hunting skills (for cats) from playing with toys.  Dogs learn how to play safely within a group. There are Halloween costumes for your pets, toys filled with catnip, doggie diapers for pets with medical issues, and the list goes on.  Some have even made a good living doing nothing but making fun things for dogs and cats.  Check out Etsy - there are 64 PAGES of crafts-people making items for your pets. There are 89.7…

SPRING CLEANING WHEN YOU HAVE PETS

Spring cleaning is a bit more of a chore when you have pets.  Lovable and part of the family, there's no denying that our dogs and cats bring with them cleaning challenges.  Below are some tips to help get your house ready for the warmer weather. PET HAIR This is an unending chore for those of us with pets who shed profusely.  (Raising my hand here.)  I have a Shepherd/Collie mix who blows her undercoat as soon as the weather gets warm.  Even in the colder weather, she broadcasts hair wherever she goes. Since the weather is getting warmer (hopefully), many of us get the itch to do a thorough spring cleaning and start fresh for the new season.  If you have pets, you know that removing all pet hair from your home is impossible.  Particularly if you have carpet, a complete clean would require moving each and every piece of furniture, cleaning under it, and THEN cleaning the underside of the furniture.  If you want to finish before autumn, you’re going to have to take some shortcuts. Find where it’s…
